Home Start Waverley
How we help:
Offer a quality-assured volunteer-based home visiting service promoting the welfare of families in Waverley with at least one child under the age of 5 years.
Give free practical help, support and friendship where a family is under stress, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.
Arrange for a co-ordinator to visit each family to be able to specifically match them with a trained volunteer who can address their individual needs.
Enable the family, co-ordinator and volunteer to agree when visits will take place (typically 2-4 hours per week) and how their time will be spent during visits.
Provide for help to be given according to need, whether by listening to problems, playing with the children, doing practical things with the parent(s) [but not babysitting or cleaning] , helping them attend appointments or signposting them to other sources of help available in the community.
Give an assurance that our volunteers, who are parents themselves and understand what it is like to bring up a young family, are non judgemental, and treat information they are told as confidential within Home-Start.
As an independent charity we do not replace the work done by Health Visitors or Social Workers, but aim to complement the work of other agencies.
Undertake only to share some information about the level and nature of the support we give to a family with the family’s consent, except where there is concern about the safety and welfare of a child or a vulnerable adult.
Families may self-refer or be referred via a Health Visitor, Social Worker or other related agencies.
Where your circumstances are complex and you need help from various organisations, we can help you by making contact with several organisations within the Waverley network on your behalf, without you having to explain your circumstances to them over again.
